Jail guards seize shabu from female detainee

A 31-year-old female inmate of the Mandaue City Jail found herself facing another charge after jail guards seized shabu which they found in her possession.

Two plastic packs suspected to contain shabu were seized from Marites Jagro of barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City after jail guards conducted a surprise inspection following a tip off that Jagro illegal drugs were being trafficked in the detention cell.

Jagro had been in and out of jail after she was charged with illegal drug possession in May 2012.
Senior Insp. Elsie Irish Alcomendras, the city jail warden for the female dormitory, said they were tipped off by a female inmate that was keeping shabu in her pocket.

Two female jail guards were sent to Jagro’s cell to conduct a spot inspection. The contraband was found tucked in her waist.

Jail guards went on to frisk the male inmates, but they failed to spot the shabu.

A charge for possession of illegal drugs was filed against Jagro yesterday in the Mandaue City Prosecutors’ Office.

Alcomendras said it was the first time this year that an inmate was caught possessing illegal drugs as tight security measures have been implemented to prevent people from smuggling in contraband.
