CEBU CITY, Philippines — The municipality of Bantayan now has zero remaining active cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-2019) after its four last remaining cases have officially recovered from the infection.
The municipality announced on Monday, August 31, that as of Sunday, it neither had any active case nor pending COVID-19 swab tests.
The town’s information office, in a follow-up interview, said the town had a total of 38 patients, who contracted the novel coronavirus and tagged under the municipality. Of the 38, six were natives of the town located on Bantayan Island but who were no longer residing in the locality.
“As of yesterday, August 30, 2020, THERE ARE NO ACTIVE CASES AND NO PENDING SWAB TEST RESULTS. We’re doing a good job of following the minimum health protocols, especially wearing masks when outside, staying away from people, and avoiding “tagay-tagay!” the LGU said in its bulletin.
The LGU, however, urged the public to continue to strictly follow health standards as the pandemic continues. The town also reminds its residents to immediately report to barangay health workers and emergency response teams should they develop any flu-like symptoms.
“It is always better to be extra cautious so that we can prevent the spread of the virus,” the Bantayan LGU said./dbs
