Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III declared a target of “zero tolerance” for all crimes in Central Visayas as he began his first term as chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC-7).
All crimes, even the smallest ones, should not be given leeway, said Davide during a joint meeting of the RPOC and the Regional Development Council (RDC) 7 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, yesterday.
“The tolerance of petty crimes leads to the proliferation of bigger crimes,” Davide said.
While he called for more police visibility and well-lighted streets and sidewalks, Davide said the region’s peace and order climate remains “a community concern.”
During the meeting Chief Supt. Paul Labra, Regional Intelligence Division chief, said more than 1,000 persons linked to illegal drugs were arrested in the first six months of the year.
Labra said P37.9 million worth of illegal drugs were also recovered since the beginning of the first quarter.
Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, Cebu provincial police chief, said they arrested 382 persons on illegal drug charges and filed 273 cases in the first six months of this year compared to 146 in the same period last year.
