Casio slip helps Painters survive

By: Jonas N. Panerio June 27,2014 - 09:50 AM

Sometimes, it’s better to be lucky than good. This as the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters capitalized on a slip by Alaska guard JV Casio to hack out a 123-121 overtime win over the Aces in Game Four of the best-of-five semifinals series last night in the PBA Governor’s Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

With the game tied at 121-all, Casio stole the ball from an errant pass by Rain or Shine import Arizona Reid. With nothing between him and the basket, Casio appeared to have a clear path to the go-ahead layup when he slipped and lost the ball, giving the ball back to the Elasto Painters with 33.9 seconds to go in overtime.

The Painters quickly took advantage as Beau Belga grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back in while getting fouled to put his team in front, 123-121, with 12.7 ticks left. Belga missed the bonus freethrow but Alaska could not win nor tie the game as Casio missed an open three pointer and then, a midrange jumper as time expired.

Reid led the game with 32 points.

The win tied the series up at 2-2 with the rubbermatch set tomorrow at the same venue.
