An off-duty policeman was arrested after he allegedly discharged his gun outside a bar in barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City.
SPO1 Neri Velasquez Cahimat of the Mabolo Police Station was handcuffed and taken into custody.
Cahimat, 50, was one of the customers of Club Alchology on Mango Avenue early morning yesterday.
A commotion broke out when the policeman was allegedly seen firing his gun, prompting the bar’s security guard Rey Jalandoni Requizo to call the police.
Cahimat said he was surprised when members of the Fuente Police Station led by Chief Insp. Wildemar Tiu arrived and brought him to the police station.
The policeman, a resident of barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City, was also brought to the Cebu City Medical Center to test the alcohol level in his blood since he had been drinking.
He denied the accusation that he had indiscriminately fired his gun.
“Wala man ko nagpabuto sa akong pistola. Ila lang gyud ko gipasanginlan (I did not fire my gun. I was wrongly accused),” said Cahimat, who has been in the police service for 27 years.
Police recovered a .45 caliber pistol with eight bullets from Cahimat’s possession.
Cahimat will be subjected to a paraffin test to determine if he had recently fired a gun./ Maeine R. Mosquite, USJR Intern
