Six delegates from Cebu province and the private sector will be sent to a tourism conference in Thailand next month.
Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III said he wants to make sure the tourism industry in the province is well promoted there.
He still has to decide who to send to the Inter-Island Tourism Policy (ITOP) Forum in Phuket, Thailand from August 20 to 22.
Representatives from nine other member islands will be joining the conference.
The ITOP has 10 member provinces with Cebu officially declared as its ninth member in 2011.
The forum aims to explore the world tourism market by bringing together islands with similar cultural sympathies and tourism structures and policies.
Vice Gov. Magpale, head of the committee on tourism and international affairs, said the forum will be good for the local tourism industry.
Phuket Vice Gov. Chamroen Tipayapongtada and other officials visited Davide at the Capitol yesterday morning to invite him to the conference.
Tipayapongtada said the forum will facilitate inter-island exchange of cultures and foster a stronger relationship among its participants.
“I’m very happy to be able to visit Cebu,” said Tipayapongtada.
