DUMAGUETE CITY – Albert “Prince” Pagara of the ALA Gym used his speed and boxing smarts to subdue the tough Gadwin Tubigon via a 10-round unanimous decision in the main event of the ALA-Cobra “Tunay na Lakas” fight card held Saturday at the Freedom Park here.
Referee Teddy Alivio scored the bout 97-94, judge Nic Banal had it at 98-92 and judge Ben Necesario scored it 98-92 for the 19-year-old Pagara, who remained undefeated after 18 bouts. He also has 12 knockout wins.
The 29-year-old Tubigon dropped to 9-8-2 (win-loss-draw) with four KO’s.
Both boxers were hesitant to mix it up in the early going but Tubigon steadily applied pressure to pin Pagara on the ropes and whale away with hooks to the midsection.
Pagara used his accurate jab and one-two combinations to win the rounds and his excellent lateral movement to keep out of harm’s way.
Jaymart Toyco, meanwhile, won by technical knockout in the seventh round to hand Juren Labordo his first career loss. Labordo suffered a knockdown in the second round when he walked into a counter right hook. He got up and rallied with right hooks of his own in the subsequent rounds.
In the seventh, Toyco applied more pressure and knocked Labordo down with punishing body shots. Labordo got up but signaled that he did not want to continue at the 1:21 mark.
Labordo is now 11-1 with 7 KOs while Toyco moved up to 14-4 with 10 KOs.
