THE teenage mother who was humiliated by a priest during her son’s baptismal rites says her life is slowly returning to normal after she reconciled with the priest.
She said her worries are gone and she can now sleep soundly after Fr. Romeo Obach visited her at home and sincerely apologized for humiliating and scolding her in public.
Fr. Obach scolded the girl during the baptism of her baby for being a single mother. The incident was caught on video and was uploaded by the girl’s mother. It went viral within 24 hours.
The priest and the Redemptorist congregation already made a public apology for the incident and Fr. Obach has been suspended from officiating masses.
Fr. Obach also apologized personally to the 17-year-old mother and to the girl’s mother.
The teenage mother also said the issue made her stronger and taught her lessons.
“Hold your temper. Sometimes, when we are angry, we forget that we say hurting words,” she said.
She already deleted the video on her mother’s Facebook page and asked the public to forgive the priest.
She said deleting the video is her way of showing that the issue between her and Fr. Obach has been resolved.
“Sometimes, I don’t like to read comments with foul words against Fr. Obach,” the unwed mother said.
The teenage mother said she felt the sincerity of the priest when he asked for forgiveness.
“He admitted that he has faults and I also admitted mine. What’s important now is it’s over,” she smiled.
She will go back to school in the coming semester.
