LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines — The latest coronavirus infections in Lapu-Lapu City are transmitted at home or are home transmissions.
Grace Carungay, Lapu-Lapu City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) chief, said that this was because some of those infected with the virus submitted themselves late for swab testing even if they already manifested symptoms of the virus.
“Kasagaran sir kay home transmission. Kay kasagaran man gud karon, ang mentality sa tawo dili bitaw magpa-swab dayon,” Carungay said.
(Most are home transmissions. This is because the mentality of people today is they do not submit themselves to swab testing right away.)
“Kanang kabaw sila nga na-expose sila or naa na silay gi-bati, dili sila mag-isolate dayon sa ilang pamilya. Mao nang mahitabo magtakod na hinoon ang tibuok banay,” Carungay said.
(They already know that they were exposed and they already feel ill and still they do not isolate themselves from their families. So what happens is that they also infect their family members.)
Due to this, Carungay urged Oponganons to continue to comply with the health and safety protocols, even if they are at home.
“Mag-face mask lang gihapon ta bisan naa ta sa balay. Mag-social distancing, ug kun mahimo, likayan nato ang mag-istorya ug taas,” she added.
(Let us wear face mask while we are at home. Observe social distancing and if possible avoid getting into long conversations with our relatives at home.)
Carungay said that based on their monitoring, from January 17 to 23, 2021, the city has logged 59 newly reported cases of the virus.
Yesterday alone, January 23, 2021, the city recorded nine newly reported cases of the COVID-19.
Currently, Lapu-lapu City has 101 active cases of the virus. Eight of which are admitted at the hospitals, while the rest are quarantined in their isolation facilities.
Of the said cases, Barangay Basak recorded 21 cases, 15 cases in Pusok, 11 cases in Pajo, 8 cases in Gun-ob, 1 case in Looc, 3 cases in Mactan, 1 case in Babag, 5 cases in Marigondon, 7 cases in Bankal, 4 cases in Agus, 12 cases in Pajac, 1 case in Calawisan, 1 case in Canjulao, 1 case in Buaya, 5 cases in Maribago, 2 cases in Suba-Basbas, 1 case in Punta Engaño, and 2 cases in Tingo./dbs
