LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu—The Lapu-Lapu City Government said it apprehended 182 quarantine violators on Tuesday, January 27, 2021.

Those caught were individuals who were not wearing face masks and didn’t have quarantine passes.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan said in his public address on his Facebook page on Tuesday night that he will waive the P1,000 fine for these violations but he will have the violators undergo a seminar with the Philippine National Police (PNP).

“Pero ato silang gipasabot nga sa higayon nga madakpan pa sila, doblehon nato ang ilang multa,” Chan said.

(But we made them understand that if they get caught again, we will double the fine they will have to pay.)

Chan said that although the city has the smallest number of active cases of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) among the three highly urbanized cities in the Province of Cebu, the mayor still observed a slight increase in their number of cases.

In the latest monitoring of the Department of Health on Tuesday, the city recorded 9 new cases of the virus, while the number of active stands at 119.

With this, the mayor said that the city will strictly implement health and safety protocols.

Chan appealed to Oponganons to cooperate through complying with the health and safety protocols, because the government cannot win the battle against the COVID-19 alone.
