A four-year-old boy from Barangay Abgao, Maasin City, Southern Leyte sincerely calls for financial assistance that will significantly help in supporting his chemotherapy treatment.
Braed Marcus Quicho was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) last February 2020. One month before his diagnosis, unsettling symptoms of a disease began to appear. He afterwards appeared pale and weak with swollen and painful joints. These manifestations prompted his parents to seek for medical care. Because of the lack of medical facilities in their hometown, his parents decided to take him to a hospital in Cebu City for specialized care. Diagnostic tests that include complete blood count and bone marrow aspiration were carried out and the results pointed to the diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. ALL is a type of cancer of the blood which is characterized by the production of increased number of immature lymphocytes. This devitalizing disease commonly affects children. Statistics have shown that children diagnosed with this disease has a high chance of cure if treated promptly with chemotherapy. But when left untreated, the condition will worsen and becomes fatal.
Braed Marcus’ chemotherapy was then administered following his diagnosis. Based on his attending hematologist-oncologist’s recommendations, he will be following a three-year treatment protocol which uses chemotherapeutic drugs to eradicate cancer cells. He will also undergo regular check-ups and laboratory workups to closely monitor his condition. For his chemotherapy sessions in Cebu City, he needs around P12,000 every month until 2023 for all his medicines and treatment procedures.
As described by his parents, Braed Marcus is a sweet and polite little boy. He loves the arts and he plays with his toy cars most often. He is the only child in the family. His father has recently stopped working in order to focus his time in caring for him. His mother works as an accounting clerk in a private school in Maasin City and earns at least P306 per day. His mother’s income is barely enough to meet their family’s growing needs. Their family’s financial capabilities are already strained due to the unfortunate diagnosis of Braed Marcus and the high cost of his chemotherapy. Hence, his parents are earnestly appealing for financial assistance from good-hearted individuals to serve as a helping hand in saving the life of their treasured child.
