CEBU CITY, Philippines — Norman Marcel Suico, 56, was navigating a narrow alley just a few meters from his house carrying two boxes of groceries he and his wife just bought.

He never got home.

A lone assailant shot Suico in the head in another daring broad daylight attack in Sitio Sudlon, Barangay Alang-Alang, Mandaue City, on Saturday, February 6, 2021. He died on the spot.

Police Staff Sergeant Ariel Gingco, the case investigator said that they are eyeing two suspects responsible for the attack as seen in the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage they got from an establishment nearby. He said that they already have descriptions of the suspects and the motorcycle being used in the attack.

“Ang victim nakit-an (in the CCTV), ang suspects pod nakita rasad pero nakahelmet man gud sila.”  Gingco said.

(The victim was seen in the CCTV along with the suspects who were wearing helmets at that time.)

Gingco said that the victim and his wife were on their way home after purchasing groceries from a mall in Cebu City when the incident happened. The wife stopped for a while and just let Suico head home first.

“Ang iyang asawa nahabilin sa gawas, meters away from the eskinita kay nasangit sa ukay-ukay. Mao to nga ang iyang asawa wa nakakita sa panghitabo.” Gingco disclosed.

(The victim’s wife stayed a few meters away from the area of the incident because she was choosing thrift clothes in an establishment nearby.)

About the same time, the gunman was already tailing the victim, shot him in the head then fled on board a motorcycle.

Gingco mentioned in a phone interview that they have a witness who saw the shooting incident but failed to recognize the assailant. He said that they are initially looking at a personal grudge as a possible motive behind the gruesome killing despite what the family has said that Suico has no known enemies.

As of this posting, the police are conducting further investigation to identify the suspects. They will continue reviewing CCTVs around the area to support their initial descriptions of the suspects, Gingco said. /rcg
