CEBU CITY, Philippines — The unemployed and displaced workers in Cebu City will now have something to look forward to.
Senator Emmanuel Joel Villanueva has managed to secure a P1.9 million allotment for the city under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program through the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
Mayor Edgardo Labella said Senator Villanueva told him that the allotment is ready to be used for the city’s residents.
The program provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed 30 days.
The beneficiary will earn P400 a day in the program and can earn at least P4,000 in total if they complete the minimum 10-day requirement.
“Ako nang gitahasan ang DSWS (Department of Social Welfare and Services) nga unahon gyod tong mga poorest of the poor,” said the mayor. (I have already instructed the DSWS, to prioritize the poorest of the poor)
Those who want to register for the TUPAD program can seek assistance with the DSWS as they have been instructed by Labella to assist the beneficiaries and connect them to DOLE.
The mayor hopes this will alleviate the struggles of recently displaced workers due to the pandemic. /rcg
