CEBU CITY, Philippines – Cops in Cebu City expressed willingness to get vaccinated as protection from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Police Colonel Josefino Ligan, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) director, said at least 1,000 of their personnel have informally given consent to have themselves inoculated against COVID-19.
Ligan said most police officers did not hesitate on the prospect to be administered with COVID-19 vaccines, and that they will wait for further instructions from higher-ups on this matter.
“Our police are ready and willing to have themselves vaccinated against COVID-19. I think no one rejected the idea,” said Ligan in Cebuano.
The CCPO official also denied reports that the Philippine National Police (PNP) forcibly told all cops to have themselves vaccinated against COVID-19 otherwise they will be reassigned.
“We did not receive any report requiring and forcing our police to take the vaccines,” Ligan said.
In Cebu, healthcare workers from the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) will be the first to be administered with COVID-19 vaccines.
The Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7) said over 1,900 vaccines from Pfizer’s BioNTech are expected to arrive here next week.
These are part of the 117,000 Pfizer vaccines the national government has procured for the initial rollout of its inoculation campaign. /rcg
