CEBU CITY, Philippines — The state weather bureau in Mactan is now monitoring a weather disturbance that may affect Central Visayas in the coming days.
In its weather bulletin on Sunday, February 14, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration – Mactan (Pagasa-Mactan) said they spotted a low-pressure area (LPA) 1,590 kilometers east of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur.
“We are closely monitoring the developments surrounding this LPA, which is currently outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). As of 4 a.m. today (Sunday), it is located 1,590 kilometers east of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur,” said Jomar Eclarino, weather specialist of Pagasa-Mactan, in Cebuano.
In the meantime, the gloomy and cold weather in Cebu and most parts of Central Visayas experienced this Sunday, which is Valentine’s Day, could last until tomorrow, Monday (February 15).
Pagasa-Mactan said this is due to the presence of a tail-end of a frontal system, where the cold wind of the amihan (northeast monsoon) meets with warm wind from the Pacific Ocean, which is also affecting parts of Southern Luzon.
“The entire Visayas region, and Palawan, including Kalayaan Group of Islands, will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms,” said Eclarino.
“We advise the public to regularly monitor weather updates, especially rainfall and thunderstorm advisories,” he added. /dbs
