CEBU CITY, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Mindanao is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow, Tuesday (February 16), the state weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in Mactan (Pagasa-Mactan) said on Monday, February 15, that the LPA was last seen 1,560 kilometers east of Mindanao as of 3 a.m.
Romeo Aguirre, weather specialist of Pagasa-Mactan, said that the LPA might enter PAR on Tuesday morning, February 16, but its chances of intensifying into a tropical depression had remained slim.
“If ever the LPA will enter PAR, current models say its track would make landfall within the Mindanao or southern Visayas area,” Aguirre said in Cebuano.

In the meantime, cloudy skies and rainy weather will continue to prevail over Cebu and the entire Visayas region due to another weather system — the tail-end of a frontal system.
“This type of weather would continue in the next 24 hours and will bring scattered rain showers with thunderstorms. We advise the public to regularly monitor weather advisories issued by our weather bureau,” Aguirre added.
The tail-end of a frontal system is the boundary between the cold wind of the amihan (northeast monsoon) and the easterlies or warm wind from the Pacific Ocean. /dbs
