CEBU CITY, Philippines—Ginatilan Mayor Dean Michael Singco has tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Singco, in a statement issued on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, said he recently received confirmation that he and his wife, Hannah Singco, were infected with COVID-19.

“Akong gikasubo nga pagpahibalo (nga) ako ug akong misis si Hannah puros positive sa COVID-19,” Singco said.

(I am sad to inform everyone that me and my wife, Hannah, both tested positive for COVID-19.)

Singco is the 9th mayor in Cebu confirmed to have been afflicted with the disease, based on a tally made by Cebu reporters.

The Singcos are currently isolated in Cebu City while members of their household were immediately placed under quarantine and subject for swab tests.

The mayor said Hannah, who works as a “legal frontliner”, had fever last Friday after attending a hearing the day before.

“Mao nga ni decide mi magpa saliva test last Monday,” added Singco.

(This is why we decided to undergo saliva test last Monday.)

Meanwhile, Singco said he is presently asymptomatic and that his wife is no longer showing symptoms of the infection.

He also assured his constituents that delivery of basic services in Ginatilan will remain unhampered despite his temporary absence.
