In anticipation of the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Magellan and Christianity in the Philippines and the Victory at Mactan, Gabii sa Kabilin will hold a webinar on February 26, entitled, “Tracing the Magellanic Expedition Part 2: From the Philippines to the Moluccas” with Dr. Jose Eleazar R. Bersales.
The webinar, which will be streamed on GSK’s Facebook page, will discuss the Magellanic crew’s arrival in the Philippines, and the notable events that happened shortly after including the First Mass, the First Baptism and the Battle of Mactan. It will also tackle how the Spaniards managed to escape Cebu, and how they found Moluccas (Spice Islands).
This webinar follows the first GSK online activity last June where Dr. Bersales discussed Magellan’s voyage from Spain to the Philippines, including the expedition’s discoveries and the challenges they faced during their two-year journey before arriving to these islands.
Dr. Bersales is an archaeologist, historian, professor and writer. He is also the director of the University of San Carlos Museum and the provincial consultant on Museum Affairs.
