LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines – A drug-suspect who has a pending warrant of arrest, has surrendered himself to Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan on Tuesday noon, February 23, 2021.

Renato Macayana, 39 years old, is facing charges for violation of article 2, section 5, of the Republic Act (R.A.) no. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The warrant of arrest of Macayana, dated February 2, 2021, was issued by Judge Rosario Evelyn Singco of the Regional Trial Court Branch 71 in Lapu-Lapu City.

The case was about a buy-bust operation conducted by policemen against Macayana in October last year, wherein Macayana was able to escape.

But despite this, the police pursued filing a case against the suspect, even if he is still at-large.

Macayana admitted that he feared for his security, that’s why he decided to surrender.

“Karon nga naa ko’y warrant, ni-surrender ko. Kay amo manang gitubag ang summon, dayon nigawas ang resolution with the warrant, maong ni-surrender ko,” Macayana said.

Chan, for his part, said that he is glad that Macayana has decided to surrender to him.

As a way to ensure the security of the drug suspect, the mayor escorted and turned him over to Lapu-Lapu City Police (LCPO) director P/Col. Arnel Banzon.

“At least matubag niya, ug mahatagan niya ug katin-awan ang iyang kaso,” Chan said./rcg
