CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City will remain under the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) until March 2021.
Mayor Edgardo Labella said he was thankful for the trust and confidence of the Cebu City government to handle the coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation amid the rise in cases.
“Even if we are under MGCQ, let us treat our health protocols as if we are in a higher level. We should never be complacent. Let us prove to the IATF that we are worth their confidence that despite the rising cases, we are capable of leveling the curve,” said Labella.
The mayor said that while the city had remained under MGCQ, the health protocols would still be strictly implemented while certain establishments would have to remain close.
He said the quarantine passes using the number coding would remain with odd ended passes allowed ro go out Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, while zero and even ended passes would be allowed to go out on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
All quarantine pass holders will be allowed to go out on Sundays except for the barangays that have imposed Sunday lockdowns.
Particularly, Labella wants cockpits, concert halls, and movie theaters to remain closed even when these could already open under most areas under MGCQs.

Even if the cinemas already provided a comprehensive plan on showing movies under limited capacity, the mayor is still not convinced.
He said that when cinemas announced the return of movies, this would surely cause crowds.
The mayor is not willing to risk the situation of the city yet with the rising cases.
In the data of Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the city is seeing more or near equal recoveries compared to new cases for the past five days.
On February 26, 2021, the city recorded 148 new cases but also recorded 146 recoveries.
In fact, the active cases has dropped to 3,044 on the same day.
Labella encouraged the public to continue following the health protocols so that the cases would further lessen and there would be more chances of opening more industries. /dbs
