LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines- At exactly 12 midnight tonight, February 27, 2021, Executive Order (E.O.) no. 2021-010, of Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan, will no longer be effective.
This was announced by Chan himself on his Facebook account.
Entitled “An Order Temporarily Suspending Certain Activities in the City of Lapu-Lapu during the period of Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) from February 20-27, 2021” the EO highlights the implementation of a liquor ban and the ban on videoke and karaoke activities in the city. It was issued by Chan to curb the rising cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) by prohibiting mass gatherings.
The order also suspends various activities such as swimming in public beaches, the operation of internet cafes, cockpits, among others.
“Ato kining nadesisyonan human adunay 129 ka mga pasyente sa atong isolation facilities ang nakarekober na karong adlawa,” Chan said on his Facebook post.
Chan, however, clarified that the curfew from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am, quarantine pass, and number coding scheme are still in effect to control the movement of the public.
“Ako lang ipahinumdom sa tanan nga bisan paman lifted na ang atong executive order, padayon lang gihapon ta nga mosunod sa mga health protocols sama sa pagsul-ob sa face mask ug face shield, pag-obserbar sa social distancing, kanunay nga paghugas sa kamot, ug paggamit sa alcohol o hand sanitizer,” the mayor’s post added.
The mayor hopes that Oponganons would still cooperate in complying with the health and safety protocols, which he describes as the key to win the battle against the unseen enemy.
Based on the monitoring of the Department of Health (DOH)-7, as of February 26, 2021, Lapu-Lapu City logged 59 new cases of the virus. The city’s total active cases have now climbed to 888. /rcg
