These unique bicycles are turning heads in Cebu

CEBU CITY, Philippines— Biking is never boring.

Biking makes every biker feel powerful and confident to make it somewhere far and challenging.

But along the bike routes and busy city streets in Cebu, not-so-common bikes can be spotted.

Yes, may it be a custom-made bicycle that looks futuristic or bikes that bring us back to a couple of centuries and decades ago.

Let’s start with this bike made by Benito Collamat Javier from Mandaue City.

According to Javier, who has been making these kinds of bikes for years, these type may be hard to maneuver or heavy to pedal, but these bikes make him more confident in cruising the streets of Cebu.

“I’m 54, but I am still able to bike to Busay, even if my unique bike is heavy. I just assembled this to fit my height. This may be heavy but I endure the pain just so I can sweat it out,” said Javier.

While Javier makes his bikes look futuristic or cool, this bike by a Talisaynon biker takes us back to the 1800s.

Jahvany Jahbitad, a bike enthusiast, also made wise use of his time during the strict Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and decided to transform his modern bike into a classic one.

This Penny-farthing classic bike is Jahitabd’s ECQ baby.

”I built this Penny-farthing bike during ECQ. It’s just out of boredom at home,” said Jahbitad.

He added that that bike is not really designed to go fast or up the mountains, but can be used as a bike for “chill rides.”

Speaking of old or classic bikes, a group of bikers in Cebu are also trying to make vintage bikes a hit again.

Netizen, Nodnoyad Nujlien, shared with CDN Digital how his group of friends cruise the city with their vintage bikes from the 1950s.

Share vibes sa ato mga lolo ug mga Cebuano na naka abot ani a bikes,” said Nujlien.

(Sharing this vibes to our grandfathers and Cebuanos who were able to see these bikes before.)
