Toledo City Trojans tightens grip of 4th spot in PCAP online chess

CEBU CITY, Philippines– The Toledo City Trojans emerged as the better Cebu-based team in the second round of the ongoing All-Filipino Conference Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) online tournament.

The Trojans bested the Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors, 12.5-8.5, in their second-round clash last Saturday, March 6, 2021.

With their win, the Trojans tightened their grip on the fourth spot of the South Division standings with 15 wins and 12 defeats. However, they lost to the south division’s No. 1 team, the Negros Kingsmen, 9.5-11.5 in their second game.

On the other hand, the Naki Warriors wrapped up last Saturday’s outing with two losses after they got beaten by Palawan Queen’s Gambit, 12-9, in their second match. They, however, kept the sixth spot in the South Division standings with a 12-15 (win-loss) card.

The Trojans fielded in their usual line-up comprised of International Master (IM) Rico Mascariñas, Glicerio Pardillo Jr., Jinky Catulay, Bonn Rainauld Tibod, Christopher Tubalado, Rommel Ganzon, Ronald Ganzon, Rogelio Enriquez Jr, Jean Jean Gacang, and Richard Natividad.

The Naki Warriors on the other hand, is manned by National Master (NM) Merben Roque, Bryle Arellano, Cristy Cabungcag, Odilon Badilles, Robeo Resuera, Neil Adrian Gilig, Aldwin Daculan, and Kraig Quinain.

Only the top eight teams from both the North and South divisions will be advancing to the quarterfinals next month. /rcg
