Cepca: NM Enriquez, Lavandero top chess games

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Maria Kristine Lavandero and National Master (NM) Rogelio Enriquez Jr. dominated the weekly tournament of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) last Sunday, March 14, 2021.

The tournament, which uses the Lichess.org platform, saw Lavandero, a University of Cebu (UC) Webmaster varsity player, snagging the top spot in the Prexy Jerry Blitz Arena with 32 points. NM Enriquez Jr., meanwhile, scored 55 points to top the All-Cepcans Arena.

Jinky Catulay, also a varsity wood pusher from the University of San Carlos (USC), settled for second behind Lavandero with 27 points, while Dr Leo Lofranca rounded off the top three in the category with 26 points. Reynaldo Flores (25 points) and Engr. Eladio Lim III (24)settled for fourth and fifth places, respectively.

On the other hand,  Engineer Jimmy Ty placed second behind NM Enriquez Jr. with 50 points, Ruel Nuttal salvaged the third spot with 36 points. Fourth place went to Rosendo Yamyamin with 32 points, while Antonio Cabibil (23) and Cristina Belano (22) settled for fifth and sixth places apiece. 

The tournament was sponsored by Cepca President, Engineer Jerry Maratas and Dr. Edwin Cablao, who provided cash prizes to the winning woodpushers.
