MANDAUE CITY, Philippines – Mandaue City has allotted P40 million for the concreting and drainage project in Barangay Looc beside the University of Cebu-Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM).

Lawyer John Eddu Ibañez, executive secretary of Mayor Jonas Cortes, said the Jovita Ouano Martinez St. road project in barangay Looc is one of the Mayor’s priority projects this year.

Ibañez said the road was one of the problematic roads in the City as it is very dusty there and easily gets flooded during a downpour.

He said the street was not concreted before as it was a private road. It was only in late 2019 that it was donated.

“Usa na siya gyud sa solusyon nga mawala na nang abog dinha kay gikarga manggud na sa mga ligid sa mga dagko’ng truck nga muagi dinha. Inig agi diris kilid mada ang mga lapok ug yuta mao nang mahimong abog. Si Mayor usa sad na sa iyang priority kay naa nay budget para drainage ug concreting,” said Ibañez

The project is expected to be completed within this year.

On Monday, March 15, 2021, Cortes did a walk-through on the city’s two completed infrastructure projects – the newly concreted J.M. Ceniza St. located at Sitio Superior, Barangay Looc, and the 12 units modular classroom annex building of the Mandaue City College.

The city spent P79 million on the two projects — P15.5 million for the concreting and drainage of the road beside the city hospital, P34 million in Sitio Superior, Barangay Looc, and P29.5 million for the 12 modular classrooms.

The road project beside the city hospital was completed last year (October 30, 2020) and the project in Sitio Superior was completed last month. The modular rooms were finished August last year.

Ibañez said according to the residents in Sitio Superior, during heavy rains they haven’t experienced flooding because the water would now go through the drainage and into the sea.

The classrooms can accommodate around 25 students in the new normal set-up and have their own comfort room per classroom.

Students of the Mandaue City College would use the classrooms during the school year when face-to-face classes are allowed to resume.

The Mayor is also set to visit the newly completed flood control project in barangay Paknaan. /rcg
