Compostela police station has a new head following the relief of its former chief amid accusation on releasing a foreigner in exchange for P50,000.
Chief Insp. Fructoso Lim, former chief of Medellin police, will assume office today replacing Senior Insp. Samuel Romanillos.
Cebu Provincial Police Office director Supt. Noel Gillamac ordered Romanillos’ relief. He is now assigned with the CCPO holding group.
Romanillos is being investigated over the release of Ghanaian national Alexander Painstil who was caught sniffing marijuana sticks.
The foreigner’s Filipina wife allegedly offered P50,000 in exchange for her husband’s liberty.
Romanillos denied receiving money after the foreigner’s arrest. He said he released Painstil as there was no evidence recovered from him.
On the other hand, Lim hopes to be more effective in his new post and gain the confidence of the public again by giving good service.
Gillamac ordered the new Compostela police chief to focus on anti-drug operations.
Gillamac also ordered the conduct of a pre-charge investigation against a policeman who tested positive in a drug test.
The investigation will be conducted by the Provincial Investigation and Detection Management Branch (PIDMB).
He was the only one out of 48 police officers from different stations who tested positive in a surprise test last week.
His name was kept confidential.
Before the test was announced, PIB head Supt. Rodolfo Albotra locked the conference room to avoid anyone from leaving the room.
He said he noticed the policeman looked restless while urine samples were being taken.
