LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines – The Lapu-Lapu City Government was awarded the 2019 National Anti-Drug Abuse Council Performance Award by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Jonah Pino, OIC of DILG Lapu-Lapu City, presented to mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan this morning, March 17, 2021, the marker for the said award.
Pino said that Lapu-Lapu City garnered an 85% score during the functionality audit that was conducted by the agency that year.
“It has several indicators nga atong gi-observe ana, such as the functionality of the anti-drug abuse council, the clearing, the presence pod sa cleared nga barangay, as well as other indicators such as efforts of the PNP, of the city on the anti-drug campaign,” Pino said.
Among the tri-cities in Cebu, Pino said that Lapu-Lapu was the only one that got the award.
Pino, however, said that the DILG will conduct a yearly evaluation, to ensure that they have sustained their anti-drug campaigns and programs.
Aside from this, Barangay Caohagan, an islet barangay in Olango Island, was also recognized by the agency as an unaffected barangay against illegal drugs.
Lapu-Lapu City mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan welcomed the said recognition and expressed his gratitude to the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and the City of Lapu-Lapu Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (CLOSAP), which contributed in the implementation of the city’s anti-drug campaign.
“Dako kaayo nato nga garbo ug dungog sa atoang siyudad nga nakadawat ta ug marker from the DILG regards sa atong campaign against illegal drugs. For Cebu province, and tri-cities, we are the only LGU nga nakadawat niining klase sa award,” Chan said. /rcg
