MANDAUE CITY, Philippines – The Mandaue City government and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) aim to have a drug-cleared barangay in the city within the year.
So on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) held a special case meeting together with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and PDEA to clear some things and concerns regarding Barangay Bakilid’s request to be declared a drug cleared barangay.
City Councilor Nerissa Soon-Ruiz, CADAC focal person, said if ever, Bakilid will be the first barangay to be cleared from illegal drugs.
Ruiz said Bakilid would be then become a role model for the city’s 26 other barangays.
She said they are confident that Bakilid would be declared as drug-cleared within this year as it only lacks a few documents.
“Ang administrasyun ni Mayor Jonas is so supportive nga atong barangay drug committees nga naa gyud support gikan sa administration, nya naglihok gyud nga naninguha nga ma limpyo gyud atong siyudad,” said Ruiz.
Agent Geoffrey Flores of PDEA Mandaue said there are only a few uncooperative drug personalities in the barangay that’s why they continue their house visitations of the drug personalities encouraging them to take advantage of the government’s intervention program.
Flores said to be declared as drug-cleared, the barangay must account for all personalities on the barangay’s watchlist and make sure that these personalities must complete the intervention program provided by the barangay.
He said a drug-free barangay is different from a drug-cleared barangay.
“Drug free barangays katung mga barangays that have never been plague or beset by any illegal drug activities, katung limpyo gyud meaning wala silay existing pushers, user. Ang drug-cleared, previously affected meaning to say naay existing drug personalities but with the help sa council, through the implementation of the Barangay Drug Clearing Program (BDCP) ma declare nato ang barangay as drug-cleared,” said Flores. /rcg
