CEBU CITY, Philippines – An early afternoon fire on Wednesday, March 24 damaged at least 12 houses in Barangay Sawang Calero, Cebu City.

The Cebu City Fire Station reported that 10 houses in C. Padilla Street were totally burned down when a fire broke out in the area. Two more were also partially damaged, said FO2 Fulbert Navarro.

Firefighters received the fire alert at 12:12 p.m. on Wednesday. It was raised to 1st and 2nd alarm at 12:15 p.m. and 12:44 p.m., respectively.

Navarro said they decided to raise the alarm status three minutes after receiving the alarm since the fire erupted in a densely populated area.

He added that they also had difficulty accessing the interior part of the community due to narrow pathways.

Firefighters officially declared fire out at 1:56 p.m. or nearly two hours after they received the alarm.

Damage was pegged at P225,000.

Meanwhile, Navarro said they are still conducting further investigations to determine the cause of the fire but initial findings showed the flames allegedly started from a house owned by a certain Randy Abello. /rcg
