Acacia trees in Naga to be cut Monday

IF you’re traveling south of Cebu on Monday, traffic may be heavy as work crews start cutting down large roadside trees that are decaying and need to be removed as potential hazards.

The tree-cutting will be done during off-peak hours.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 yesterday sought the help of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 in managing traffic in the area for this activity.

During Wednesday’s conference, it was agreed that the cutting of seven century-old Acacia trees along the road in Naga City would be scheduled this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the cutting of 41 trees including three century-old Acacia trees in the next town of San Fernando road, is scheduled on August 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Most of the trees are in an “advanced stage of decay on its basal portion, branch and trunks,” mostly because of ads and other materials nailed to them.

The DENR also wrote to Visayan Electric Company asking the utility to send its boom trucks and “other necessary equipment.”
