CEBU CITY, Philippines– To say yes to a proposal is easy. To get married is somewhat easy too but to stay in a marriage for 40 years? That’s something we don’t see quite often.
Just like this elderly couple from Tagaytay Napo, Carcar City who says their secret is simple— they respect each other.
Let Diosdado and Asyuncion Sonsona inspire us all today with their story.
Wildy Buctolan, the couple’s nephew shared their photos and story with CDN Digital to show his appreciation to the couple who he treats as his own parents.
“They don’t have a child on their own but as their nephew, we treat them as our parents,” he said.
Ason, 68, is a vendor in Carbon Public Market, and Dado, 72, is a retired jeepney driver.
Both are now residing in their home in Carcar City as Ason takes a break from selling due to the pandemic.
The two, as described by Buctolan are very close to each other it is just like they are each other’s best friend.

And when asked how they managed to make their marriage last for 40 years, the two simply told Buctolan:
“Mag respituay jd daw ug e tratu nga imong partner as yourself kung g.unsa nmo pag care imong kaugalingon mao pud pag care nmo niya and if naay mga problems kai dapat sturyaan ug kalma lng kung mahimo. and they put God on the center of their marriage,” he shared.
Living a simple and happy life, Dado and Ason is a perfect example of a good and lasting marriage built on respect, love and contentment.
