The remains of 58-year-old motorcycle rider Eulogio “Chito” Arreglo was found near a grassy area in barangay Malingin, Daanbantayan town after flooding subsided late Sunday afternoon.
Arreglo, who lives with his siblings in barangay Bitoon, was swept away by a strong water current while on board his motorcycle. He was about to cross the bridge in Bitoon for the ride home last Friday night.
Daanbantayan Mayor Augusto Corro said rescuers got Moralde out of the river while his vehicle was found on the riverbed buried in mud last Sunday.
Corro said Arreglo’s siblings didn’t know then that he was missing because he left for Cebu City last Friday to visit a friend who’s confined in a hospital. He returned home while it rained hard in the evening.
Corro said Arreglo was about to cross the Bitoon bridge unmindful of the river overflow.
He was washed out by a strong water current near a grassy area in the neighboring barangay Malingin located 200 meters away. Corro said last Friday evening’s rain was the strongest the town experienced since typhoon Yolanda hit their town last November.
