Are illegal drugs being sold inside the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC)?
Jail officials yesterday confiscated several illegal drug paraphernalia from a detainee who was identified by a woman as the person who sold shabu to her.
As penalty, Jino Pilapil shall stay in the isolation cell for six months for keeping illegal drug paraphernalia inside his cell, said CPDRC jail warden Romeo Manansala.
Another inmate, Allan Pilapil, also suffered the same penalty. Allan’s sister, Jocelyn, was arrested by police in Liloan town, northern Cebu for selling illegal drugs.
In an interview yesterday, Manansala said they verified Jocelyn’s claim that she got packs of shabu from detainees of the CPDRC.
“We, however, didn’t recover any shabu. But we were able to confiscate drug paraphernalia from the cell of Jino Pilapil,” he said.
Manansala clarified that Jino is not related to Allan and Jocelyn although the three have the same surnames.
Confiscated from Jino were three cellular phones, tin foils, and a pocket WiFi.
“Those things are strictly prohibited inside the CPDRC so we have to confiscate them and penalize the inmate who possessed those items,” Manansala said.
He said they are requesting the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CCPO) to bring canine dogs to the CPDRC to help find illegal drugs and other contrabands inside the facility.
Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III said provincial jail officials have taken the necessary steps to address the entry of illegal drugs at the CPDRC.
“Whatever measure they take, there are still illegal drugs which were being brought inside. It’s not only the CPDRC but jails all over. That’s really our problem. That’s why we’re investigating,” he said in an interview.
