Law enforcers to go after bike groups caught doing road stunts

Show-cause orders to be issued to bike groups caught doing road stunts

Please do not do this again! This is the warning the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) issued on Thursday, May 20, 2021, to motorists doing stunts while driving on public roads after the agency received multiple reports, particularly from concerned citizens, of some motorcycle riders doing stunts in some of the city’s major thoroughfares. | Photos from CCTO #CDNDigital

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Law enforcement agencies in Central Visayas will be issuing show-cause orders to biker groups caught doing road stunts, photos, and videos of which went viral.

Victor Caindec, regional director of the Land Transportation Office in Central Visayas (LTO-7), announced that their agency will be issuing show-cause orders to members of motorcycle groups seen doing stunts while driving along major thoroughfares in Cebu City, in coordination with the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), and Police Regional Office here (PRO-7).

“I have directed the LTO7 Operations division to coordinate with CCTO, HPG7, and PNP PRO7 and issue show-cause orders to these club members. We will give them a chance to explain,” said Caindec in a post on social media.

Caindec also said they already identified the names of the biker groups seen on the videos and photos sent to him and their office.

He even alluded that some members of these biker groups are ‘people of high status’

“Salamat sa nag video (Thank you to whoever decided to video it). We now have leads to members of this group… Mga dagkong t*e man daw ni sila. Sige daw be, testingan daw nato (They said these people are of high status. Well then, let’s see),” added Caindec.

The CCTO, in a separate post, warned motorists not to do stunts while driving on the roads, which is a traffic violation.

“Gikondena sa CCTO ang kini nga mga lihok ug gusto nga tawagan ang atensyon sa kini nga grupo (CCTO condemned these activities and we want to summon the attention of this group),” the CCTO said.

Based on their initial investigations, some of the violations they found were driving without license plates, counter-flowing in one-way streets, driving on the No-Motorcycle-Allowed lane of the Cebu South Coastal Road viaduct, speed contest and exhibition, and reckless driving.

CCTO also urged the public to report erring drivers through their hotlines.

Penalties for traffic violations in Cebu ranged from being issued with citation tickets to confiscation of driver’s license and impoundment of vehicles. /rcg
