Jollibee temporarily shuts down branch in ‘fried towel’ mess

MANILA, Philippines — Jollibee Foods Corp. said it will temporarily close down one of its branches in Bonifacio Global City in the wake of an incident that has gone viral online – after a customer’s fried chicken meal turned out to be a fried towel instead.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, Jollibee said it will close down its Jollibee Bonifacio-Stop Over branch for 3 days starting Thursday to thoroughly review its compliance with procedures and retrain its personnel to ensure that a similar incident will not happen again.

“Jollibee has carefully developed and complied with food preparation systems to ensure that we deliver excellent quality products and customer satisfaction. We will continue to endeavor to deliver on the high standards we have set for ourselves and franchisees,” it said.

A post by Facebook user Alique Perez went viral after she claimed that her Jollibee fried chicken meal, which she ordered via food delivery service app, turned out to be a deep-fried blue towel coated in a breading mix.

“This is really disturbing… How the hell do you get the towel in the batter and even fry it!?!?” she wrote on her post, with accompanying photos and video.
