CDN Digital turns spotlight on barangays as it launches ‘Sa Cebu Ra Ni’ series

CDN Digital remains committed to provide relevant information to its readers, especially to those in the barangays who continue to do their part and stay at home amid these trying times.

With its commitment to community journalism, CDN Digital launches “Sa Cebu Ra Ni,” a new series featuring stories from the barangays of Cebu City.

These stories, familiar or unfamiliar to many, hope to bring a little normalcy to our lives, which was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Revisit or discover new stories worth sharing as we look to bring inspiration during these trying times.

The maiden episode features Barangay Kasambagan, a 189.4-hectare land area that’s teeming with economic activities— businesses and leisure spots and other industrial establishments including people that helped shape and bring color to the village.

Its leisure activities like Kartzone, famous among teens and adrenaline junkies, and food escapades like The Tinder Box, provide variety for those seeking fun and adventure.

Coined after the word “Sambag” or Tamarind tree which was abundant in the area in the early 1950s, the barangay is under the leadership of businessman-turned-politician Franklyn Ong.

According to Christmarie Joy Avila, Brgy. Kasambagan assistant secretary , the remaining tamarind trees in the barangay can be found in tiny public spaces and at the center island of Pope John Paul II Avenue. The center island was also a subject of debate after then-Mayor Micheal Rama ordered the removal of the center island during the height of the preparations for the International Eucharistic Celebrations which was held in Cebu.
