502 families from Bogo get P30K

At least 502 families from Bogo City finally received their P30,000 cash assistance from the national government to help them purchase housing materials to replace those that they lost when typhoon Yolanda  struck eight months ago.

The appropriation is part of the P15 million fund from the national government, which represents the first tranche of the emergency shelter assistance for Yolanda victims in northern Cebu.

“Nalipay to sila ganina kay makapalit na daw sila ug ilang atop ug bongbong,” said DSWD Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat.

Government officials led by Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III also  turned over 139 of the newly built houses to typhoon victims at the 1.1 hectare Yolanda Village in barangay Lapaz in Bogo City.

Bogo Mayor Celestino Martinez Jr. said the Lapaz housing village is only the first of the many other housing sites that the city government would develop for other typhoon victims and danger zone occupants totaling 1,350 families.

Each house has an area of 21 to 22 square meters and can accommodate five to seven persons. It is made of galvanized iron sheets and marine plywood and has concrete floors.

Beneficiaries will only have to pay P240 monthly as amortization for the lot for a period of 25 years.

Director Jabagat said in a press briefing that there are 7,000 families from northern Cebu who are scheduled to receive the P30,000 emergency cash assistance, but they prioritized the 502 families from Bogo City with totally damaged houses.

The more than 6,000 others will be getting their share of assistance soon.
