MANDAUE CITY, Philippines — The Mandaue City Public Market has recorded an increase of at least P50,000 in its daily collection after its 24 entrances were reopened and the market schedule was lifted last Monday, June 14, 2021.
Edgar Seno, head of the city’s public market division, said the vendors’ income increased based on their feedbacks.
Seno said as the vendors’ income increase it also translates to the market’s high daily collection.
He said before vendors would complain because of low sales and pay the rent late.
Seno added that before when only 12 of the 24 entrances were opened due to the pandemic, the market’s daily collection would only range from P60, 000 to P70, 000 but now that all entrances were opened they could collect up to P100,000 to P115, 000.
Seno said the volume of customers who enter the market also increased by 30 percent.
Mayor Jonas Cortes said he can feel that the vendors were very happy now as they greet him with sweet smiles.
Seno said right now they already have a plan to give space for tricycles to load and unload in B. Ceniza St. to boost transportation, invite more customers and make it easier for them to ride on their way home.
Aside from this, the association of tricycles would also give a part of their income to the market if an area will be allotted for them.
He said right now, tricycles cannot park around the market.
Seno said even with the increase in daily collection, there were still not so many people shopping in the market as some residents were now used to shopping at satellite markets.
Seno said that as some restrictions were already lifted in the market, they also saw some vendors and customers violating the protocols such as not wearing face masks properly and social distancing.
Cortes assured that the city will continue monitoring and implementing the health protocols to prevent the further rise of infections.
The Mayor said the market undergoes disinfection every after its operation from 4 a.m to 8 p.m.
There were also market guards and cleaners that were scattered all over the facility to implement the protocols /rcg
