CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu City Health Department (CHD) has noted an increase of cases of fever and colds here, especially in residential areas.
Although the CHD has not revealed the specific data for this occurrence, Doctor Jeffrey Ibones, the head of the CHD, said that it is expected because of the season.
He said that cases of fever and colds always rise around July due to the changing seasonal patterns and unpredictable weather when the temperature can go up on daytime and down at nighttime.
Irregular rainfall can sometimes be experienced in a day and these inconsistencies can take a toll on the body, causing more people to get sick.
Ibones clarified that there is no proof this rise in fever and colds are directly related to the rise of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, but it can be that many of those experiencing symptoms have also sought to get tested for COVID-19.
So far, no correlation has been raised by the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) yet.
As this is a natural occurrence yearly, the CHD is not very worried about these reports and encouraged the public to take on a healthier lifestyle as well as increase personal protection against COVID-19.

Public experiencing fever and colds must also immediately get checked by a doctor to get immediate treatment and assessment should they need to be tested for COVID-19.
“Dapat macheck-up gyod mo kay kuyawan sad ta kay naa pa ta sa pandemic. Pero over the years normal naman gyod na nga daghan hilantan basta ingaron nga mga buwan,” he added.
