MORE lights will be installed and a ramp will be placed on both ends of the cemented portion of S. Osmeña Road this weekend to prepare the newly rehabilitated road for re-use starting August 12.
Contrary to earlier plans of accommodating light vehicles on its outermost lane, the national highway would be closed while removal of asphalt and pouring of cement is in progress, said City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) head Joy Tumulak.
All vehicles from the north must use the parallel roads of J. Briones and J. de Vera Streets.
“The contractor wanted to close the entire lane that they will work on to ensure safety. But they have assured us that they would find means to continue to allow access to commercial establishments located on that side of the road,” Tumulak said.
City Administrator Lucelle Mercado met with WT Construction owner Willy Ty, Tumulak and city street lighting division head Steve Po yesterday afternoon.
Tumulak said that the WT promised to place improvised ramp at both ends of the cemented portion of S. Osmeña Road – near Pier 4 and near Radisson Blu Hotel – which is elevated.
WT also promised to put up road signs on the mountain side lanes, located near Sugbutel, to guide motorists and pedestrians on ongoing road works.
Po was asked to install more lights to keep motorists safe in the evenings. Citom will manage traffic flow on the diversion roads.
Tumulak expects congestion along the intersection of J. Luna and J. Briones Street, the road where CNT Lechon is located, and the intersection of J. Luna and J. de Vera Street where Banco de Oro is located.
Congestion and slow moving traffic flow is also expected at the corner of General Maxilom and J. Briones (where D’ Inn Motel is located) and J. de Vera Street which is near the razed White Gold building.
