A 13-YEAR-OLD boy died while he was playfully slugging it out with a 14-year-old friend yesterday in barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.
Police learned from Junjun Go, a junkshop owner, that the 14-year-old Mark hit his friend in the chest and abdomen.
The two were just horsing around but the impact was enough to make the younger boy collapse on the pavement.
Another witness, Elmer Lipasana, said the victim hit his head on an ice cooler as he fell.
The boys earlier wrapped their hands with T-shirts for a fistfight.
“Lingaw-lingaw raman tong amoa, nagsabot pa gali mi nga lawasay lang walay apil ang nawng kay ingon siya nga sakit daw,” said the 14-year-old.
(We were just having fun. We even agreed not to hit the face where it would hurt the most.)
He said he was only using his right hand while his friend used both his hands.
The mock battle turned into an unexpected tragedy.
The survivor remembered too late his mother’s frequent reminder for him not to fight with other kids.
The boy who was knocked unconscious was rushed to the Barangay Mambaling Health Center and later to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) where he was declared dead on arrival. /USJR Intern Maeine R. Mosquite
