Lawyer Raul Sesbreño is again a free man almost a year after he was arrested for allegedly locking up an infant and two teenagers in his house in Talisay City.
Sesbreño, 75, was released from the Talisay City Jail last July 31 after posting a surety bond of P300,000 for three counts of serious illegal detention.
Judge Ma. Lynna Adviento of the Cebu City Regional Trial Court Branch 58 allowed Sesbreño to post bail saying the prosecution’s evidence against him was weak.
The judge also considered Sesbreño’s “deteriorating health.”
The lawyer earlier told the court that he was suffering from Pott’s disease or tuberculosis of the spine while in detention.
Last month, Sesbreño was brought to court on a stretcher for his arraignment.
He entered a plea of “not guilty”.
Talisay City Assistant Prosecutor Ma. Alice Lim-Ingles opposed the court’s ruling to release the lawyer saying Sesbreño was never examined by a government physician to prove that he was sick.
A pre-trial conference has been set by the court on Aug. 29.
