Councilman denies rape, admits meet up

THE 65-year-old councilman of a barangay in Mandaue City has denied allegations that he raped a 13-year-old girl, but admitted to having met the girl once.

However, he did not give further details to back up his counter-claim and referred further questions to his lawyer.

Police are preparing to file a rape complaint against the councilman. The minor was taken to the Pink Room of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where she will undergo a medical examination.

The girl, a Grade 7 pupil in Cebu City, claimed that the councilman took her to a motel in the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City at around noon on Aug. 2.

She said the elderly councilman befriended her and her two nieces in early July when they met at the Mandaue Bridge Park. She said he even gave them money.

The councilman allegedly brought her and her friend to a mall in Cebu City on July 19 and touched her while they were inside the car.

They were allegedly given money and were told not to tell anyone what had happened.
On Aug. 2, the minor claimed that the councilman took her to a motel. She said she resisted, but the councilman allegedly dragged her into a room where she was abused.

The councilman drove her back to the mall, gave her P500 and told her not to squeal. Her family reported the incident four days later.
