Victims of the fire that hit Sitio Kamangahan, Barangay Pajo in Lapu-Lapu City were temporarily evacuated at the barangay’s covered court.

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines — Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has ordered the prioritization of fire victims in the ongoing vaccination roll-out against Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Lawyer James Sayson, deputy for Local Vaccination Operation Center, said that this is to prevent the spread of the virus in case one of them will test positive for COVID-19.

Sayson said that this is because fire victims are being housed in evacuation centers, where there’s a greater risk of COVID-19 transmission.

“So ato silang unahan, para makalikay ta sa transmission sa evacuation site kay mas dako mana ang problema later on, inig balik ana nila sa barangay unya diha nagtinakdanay sa evacuation site,” Sayson said.

On August 3, 2021, some 32 individuals were affected by a fire in Sitio Kamangahan, Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City, after a house and seven rented rooms got totally burned.
