The Philippines’ national men’s basketball squad – the Gilas Pilipinas – continued to get better as they near the FIBA World Cup after they crushed the ACB All-Star Selection, 89-58, in an exhibition game yesterday in Vitoria, Spain.
The match was the first of a series of games geared to toughen up the squad even more with the prestigious World Cup kicking off later this month.
And so far, the Gilas showed that they are on the right track exemplified by their accurate sniping from the outside which resulted in 13 made three-point shots against the ACB squad.
Naturalized player Andray Blatche paced the Gilas with 18 points, 15 of which came in the first half when they blazed off to a 50-31 lead. Paul Lee added 10 markers while Jared Dillinger and LA Tenorio chipped in nine and seven, respectively.
The Liga ACB is the professional league of Spain. The Gilas’ opponent was a squad composed of players from the difference squads of the Liga ACB.
