6:30 p.m. – USJ-R vs. CIT-U (Srs.)
The Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats try to keep their hot start going even as the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars aim to put out the fire from their 0-2 start this season when the two teams clash tonight in the Cesafi men’s basketball tournament over at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Wildcats have been the Cinderellas of the tournament so far, seizing solo second place in the standings after beating the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters last Sunday for their second victory in three games.
One of two teams without an import, the other being UC, the Wildcats relied on the prolific scoring of undersized power forward Joshua dela Cerna, who tallied 29 markers, to offset the miserable seven-point outing of star forward Allan Dimco.
In contrast, the Jaguars, in spite of the heightened expectations due to the arrival of proven head coach Jun Noel and 6-foot-11 center Quentin Luzoladio, have underwhelmed and lost for the second time this season, 60-65, to the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras also last Sunday.
They aim to barge into the win column today with improved performances from their rookies, namely Mark Labares, Raymund Catipay and Kevin Villafranca.
In the juniors division, the Cebu Eastern College Dragons and the CIT-U Wildkittens duke it out with the former aiming for their second victory and the latter trying for its first.
