Mandaue police nab quarantine violators, ‘tigbakay’ aficionados

MANDAUE CITY Philippines — The Mandaue City Police Office has already apprehended 27 individuals and warned 557 others for violating health protocols and engaging in illegal cockfighting, or ‘tigbakay’ from August 1 to 8, 2021

August 1 was the start of the implementation of modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), in the city.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Mercy Villaro, MCPO spokesperson, said that 6 of the 23 apprehended individuals violated health protocols like not wearing face masks or not wearing them properly.

Violators of health protocols and guidelines were brought to the Department of General Services facility in barangay Labogon.

Villaro said under ordinance no. 15-2020-1531, anyone caught not wearing a face mask or failing to properly wear face masks in public places, will be fined P5,000.

Some 17 individuals from different sitios were also arrested for engaging in ‘tigbakay’. Villaro said they were already detained and will be charged with violating Presidential Decree 1602 or the illegal gambling law.

Aside from this, 557 individuals were also warned for violating other health protocols like social distancing and not wearing face shields properly.

Their names or IDs were already listed and once they will be caught again for not following the city’s health protocols, they will be charged for disobedience.    /rcg
