‘Cops’ rob couple in Toledo City

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Four armed men, who introduced themselves as cops, allegedly robbed a couple in Toledo City late night on Friday, August 13, and took cash and jewelry amounting to over P120, 000.

Richard Cantil, 34, and his common-law partner Priscilla Baya, 34, visited the community precinct in Barangay DAS Saturday dawn, August 14, to report the incident, says a report by Police Lieutenant Colonel Junnel Caadlawn, chief of the Toledo City Police Station.

In his report, Caadlawn said that the incident happened in a roadside store in Purok 9, Barangay Bunga at about 11:20 p.m. on Friday.

Quoting the accounts of the two victims, Caadlawon said that four men, who were armed with short and long firearms arrived in the area on board a gray Mitsubishi Strada, late night on Friday.

The suspects alleged knocked on the door of the roadside sari-sari store where the couple also slept and introduced themselves as policemen.

When the couple opened the door, the suspects allegedly barged into their store and took their cash and valuables.  The couple also mentioned that the still unidentified men were looking for certain “Opaw,” a resident of Barangay Pasil who is also into the illegal drugs business.

The suspects fled with their cash amounting to almost P60, 000; two gold necklaces worth P25, 600; three rings worth P36, 200; and a pair of earrings worth P4, 800.

Caadlawon said the suspects fled towards the direction of Barangay Bunga proper using the national highway.

Policemen in Toledo City continue to investigate the incident as of this writing. / dcb
