Drug suspect killed in Bohol shootout

A man suspected to be involved in the illegal drug trade was killed in a shootout with police in Ubay town, Bohol at dawn yesterday.

Police identified the fatality as Romulo Caño, who allegedly had ties with former policeman Owen Rosales, who was also suspected to be involved in the illegal drug trade.
Rosales was killed in a shootout with police in Ubay two months ago. He was linked to the ambush of Chief Insp. George Caña.

Police also arrested five men in a separate operation in barangay Poblacion.

The simultaneous operations were conducted by operatives of the Regional Intelligence Division, Regional Special Operations Group and the Ubay Police Station.Operatives of RSOG, headed by Supt. Rex Derilo, were to serve an arrest warrant against Caño in his house in barangay Achile.

Police said a shootout ensued when Caño tried to escape and fired at the police.
Police also raided a house owned by Caño in barangay Poblacion where a gunfight also took place.

Wounded in the shootout was Romulo Cabañero, who allegedly tried to resist arrest.
Arrested were Raymond Cutaran, 20; Felixberto Escalante , 47; Ramon Toyac, 43; and Randy Quiros, 39, all from Ubay.

Recovered from them were a rifle grenade, a fragmentation grenade, an AR15 rifle, three KG9 pistols, a .45 caliber pistol, four KG9 magazines, 97 rounds of 9mm, 18 rounds of .45, seven .357 revolver bullets, assorted drug paraphernalia, two medium plastic packs and five sachets of suspected shabu worth P160,000 and P23,000 cash.
