Vietnam rice boosts NFA stocks

There’s enough supply of rice in Central and Eastern Visayas, an official of the National Food Authority (NFA) said last Friday.

Lucy Rosales, NFA-7 spokesperson, gave this assurance after two vessels carrying rice from Vietnam arrived at the Cebu City port.

The M/V Dong Thu which docked Aug. 14 had  134,000 bags of rice while M/V Bien Dong Five which arrived Aug. 17 had 134,000 bags.

The shipments are part of the 1.3 million bags of rice imported by the NFA to augment the buffer stock for Central and Eastern Visayas, said Rosales.

Prior to the two shipments, four others had delivered the stocks in June 8 and 23, and July 8 and 21.

“Central Visayas will be allocated 700,000 bags of rice while Eastern Visayas will be given 640,000 bags of rice,” Rosales told Cebu Daily News.

Rosales said that the supply for Eastern Visayas are being brought to Cebu as Tacloban has no international port.

“We have been doing this since before, that the supplies for Eastern Visayas will be brought here in Cebu since we have modern facilities,” she told CDN.
